Chris Irish, RN, BSN, CDE, CPT has been a nurse in Central and Western Maine since 1999 and has been a diabetes educator since 2007. His passion for helping those with diabetes started while witnessing the devastating effects of the disease while working on an Acute Physical Rehabilitation unit, where he came to realize that many of the chronic complications of diabetes could be prevented through ongoing education and support. He has been an volunteer legislative advocate for both the ADA and the AADE and currently manages the diabetes education needs of the largest home health agency in central and western Maine. He has authored a printed booklet for newly diagnosed diabetics and is currently writing his first book about working on the front lines of the diabetes epidemic. This Fall he has invited an internationally recognized researcher, Eric Manheimer, to speak at the MeADE annual conference about his findings with the Paleo-style Diet. He is the owner of Irish Diabetes Consulting, LLC. A believer in practicing what he preaches, he has run 8 marathons (Boston twice) and is now taking up triathlons. He lives with his wife and children in the quiet western Maine town of Norway.
